- Email spam
Email spam is also known as junk email, and it is the unsolicited messages sent in large quantities through email. Spam primarily is unavoidable and repetitive. It has proliferated since the 1990s, and by 2014 it accounted for “90 percent of total email traffic.”
The recipient must bear the expense of spam, which makes it a perfect example of a negative externality. Usually, spam mails are of commercial nature.
- Negative features
When you receive emails in bulk on your system, it becomes very annoying. No matter they are commercial or not, they often lead to missing out on the important mails. They are dangerous, too, as they sometimes contain links that might lead to phishing websites or sites that host malware, which may not only cost severe damage to the system but also leads to leakage of personal data.
- How spammers reach you?
Spammers collect the email addresses from various sources like customer lists, newsgroups, websites, chat rooms, and viruses that have access to the address book of users. Spammers sell email addresses to each other too.
- Spam folder
The spam folder or also popularly known as the junk mail folder is a folder where all the unwanted incoming emails get stored. All the primary webmail services have a spam folder where the mail gets delivered and does not reach the user’s inbox. This is the filtering system that helps user’s in decreasing the quantity of unwanted and advertisement-based emails. It becomes very convenient for users as they do not have to deal with unnecessary emails.

Mostly every famous webmail server provides the feature of junk mail folder or spam folder. Though there might be a slight difference in the location of spam folders as it varies from service to service.
Yahoo! Mail – After login into the Yahoo! Email account, click on the selector that will give the option of selecting the spam folder, which is on the left side of the screen.
Oulook.com mail – After login into the Outlook.com email account, there is a selector option, and after clicking it, it will allow access to Junk Email.
iPhone and iPad – If there is a default application on the Apple device, open the mail application. Reach to the Mailboxes view from where you can clearly see the option of the Junk folder.
Google Gmail – Left side of the screen has the Categories section where after clicking on the “more” icon now from this expanded menu, you have the option of checking spam mails.
Gmail smartphone application – Whether using Gmail app on Android or iOS smartphone, just use the hamburger menu, which is on the top left corner of the screen, to view all the accessible folders. Select spam folder.
It is well known that emails are now used in greater quantity by every kind of organizations. So, to avoid the inconvenience and lots of time wasted caused by spam emails to the user’s spam folder came to the use. In fact, there are many tools for the proper deliverability of emails in case genuinely important emails do not end in the spam folder.
