Each presidential election cycle is a race to the top of the mountain and the candidate who reaches the peak first will likely take home the prize.
Although individuals and events play roles, in reality it’s not as simple as that; it takes a lot more than just luck, skill or even money. It requires strategy and execution which is where I come in.
I’ve been working with Democratic candidates for years and have helped them win elections at every level of government, from city council to president of the United States twice.
These experiences led me to an epiphany: The winning formula according to Jared Kamrass isn’t some secret sauce that only top-level political operatives know about. It’s actually something anyone can do if they’re willing to put in the hard work required to be successful on any endeavor.
It’s Not Just Policy
The primary strategist’s job is to help the candidate develop a message that resonates with voters, and then bring it to life in the media and it’s not just about policy; it’s also about style, tone and personality.
The strategist needs to understand what makes people tick so they can create an effective narrative for their candidate and then make sure that narrative is conveyed through all of the candidate’s appearances on television or at events such as town halls.
The goal here is not just getting attention; it’s also making sure that when people hear something negative about your candidate, they still support him/her anyway because they know who he/she really is deep down inside.
How Do You Win A Debate
- Know the facts as described by Jared Kamrass you need to be able to cite statistics and other evidence that supports your position. This can be anything from an academic study to personal experience, but it should be something tangible and concrete for the audience to grasp onto
- Know your opponent’s strengths and weaknesses and if someone is arguing against you, they’re probably good at what they do so find out what those things are before going head-to-head with them.
Why Is This So Important To Democrats
- Democrats need to understand the voters they are trying to reach
- Democrats need to understand how to talk to those voters
This is why it’s so important for Democrats, who have spent years studying these issues and developing strategies for reaching out across party lines and persuading voters who may not always be inclined toward their party’s platform or candidates, to keep tabs on what their Republican counterparts are doing–and what works for them in terms of messaging and strategy.
Democrats have a lot of work to do if they want to win but with the right strategy and enough focus, the party can emerge victorious from this election cycle.
